Be Our Guest!

Springfield United Methodist is a friendly and welcoming hometown church.

We warmly invite you, your family, friends, & neighbors to join us for Sunday morning worship - or any of the activities and ministries that flow from our church each week. You will find people eager to introduce themselves and make you feel at home. If you have questions, feel free to ask anyone you meet - or the staff members or ushers who can be found at the front entrance before & after each service.

Here are some answers to frequently asked "guest" questions:

  • When is communion and how is it served?

We serve communion on the first Sunday of the month at our morning services, and on the third Sunday of the month at our evening service. All people are welcome to take communion at the Lord's table - no matter their history, denomination, or creed. Ushers release people by row to come to the altar, kneel, and receive a piece of bread (the body) and a cup of grape juice (the blood) from the ministers. After receiving, you return to your seat. The altar is always open before and after each service for a time of prayer.

  • Do you have nursery for my children?

Yes! Nursery is available for infants and toddlers. The nursery is located behind the sanctuary and can be accessed by entering through the sanctuary or "Dent Hall" (social hall) doors. Pagers are assigned to each child so you can be notified if there is an issue or concern. We practice a "Safe Sanctuaries" policy which means that all infant, children, and youth workers have undergone background checks and specific training.

  • Do you have Children's Church?

Yes! After the children's message and before the sermon, children who are interested are invited to attend Children's Church. Under the direction of our Children's Pastor, volunteers lead children in a Biblically based lesson and activity. Children can be picked up in "Dent Hall" following the service.

  • Can my children stay with me while I worship?

Yes! Your infants and children are very welcome in our sanctuary. We love to see families worshipping together. Our nursery and Children's Church options are available to give you a choice and to provide the most comfortable worship atmosphere for your family.

  • How long are your services?

Each service is about 1 hour.

  • What are your services like?

The music at the 8:30 am service is contemporary with guitars, drums, keyboards and a full band that loves to lead in worship to God. The 11:00am service is a traditional Methodist service for those who connect to God through hymns and liturgy. We utilize both our piano and organ and hear great specials from the Springfield UMC Choir. The sermon in both services is identical and offers bible-based, relevant teaching. Between our two services, you are invited to our commons area to talk more with people you've met, grab a cup of coffee, and attend Sunday School.

  • Will I have to say anything, sign anything, or give anything?

While we hope you will feel welcomed at Springfield UMC, rest assured that you won't be put on the spot, singled-out, or embarrassed. Though we do receive an offering from our church family, we don't want anyone to feel obligated to give. We do like to collect some basic information from people on our visitor pads, but if you'd prefer not to.

  • What do people wear?

We invite you to feel comfortable when you come to worship God at SUMC! While most people wear "dress" or "work" clothes, you will see people comfortable in all types of clothing. In short, wear what works for you! You are welcome with us!
