Two Truths and a Lie

Have you ever played this game? It’s pretty self-explanatory.  You come up with three facts about yourself, one being a lie, and the other players have to pick out the false statement. Of course, the more outrageous the statements, the more fun and difficult it becomes; and it’s a great way to get to know people. Let’s play!

As a child, I used to wrestle bears (grizzly bears, black bears, and brown bears). I am a member of the polar bear club (you know, jumping in a frozen lake on January 1st).  I speak fluent pig-Latin. (Perhaps better than I speak English).

Think you know? Well, if you guessed that they are all true, you would be right! After all, the youth pastor shouldn’t lie…
Who would have thought growing up in the cornfields of Indiana would have produced such an interesting life? I am certainly not disappointed! I was blessed to be born into a family with a strong Christian heritage that has helped guide my life to where it is now. I spent the first 22 years of my life at one church, Little Blue River Friends Meeting, where I came to know the Lord and take my first steps toward maturity in Christ at the age of seven. I grew up active in the youth group and VBS programs but didn’t fully understand the impact it would have on my life until my freshman year in college. I attended Purdue University majoring in Biomedical Engineering, that is, until God opened my eyes and heart to the calling He had for me. After some struggles with setting my plans for life aside, I answered the call of ministry and transferred to Asbury College.

I never could have imagined God’s amazing timing and plan that would soon unfold. It was there that I met my wife, Melinda. We both transferred in as sophomores and had an almost identical class schedule. All this time spent together led to a budding relationship that would later turn into a life of love, family, and ministry together.

We all; myself, Melinda, Crista and Addie Grace, look forward to watching the next steps of God’s plan unfold before us as we minister and wor- ship together with you all here at Springfield UMC.

God Bless,
